Research areas of IUPSC are developed based on “decarbonization and digitalization” as the main concept. Grounding from that, IUPSC develops 3 research areas with 10 sub-areas.
The digital spatial planning area encompasses the entire lifecycle of urban data, from its collection to its management, through advanced digital approaches. It aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of urban spatial planning by leveraging modern technology to handle the increasingly complex data associated with urban environments.

Urban Infrastructure focuses on exploring the planning and management of urban infrastructure following the sustainability trend. This research area ranges from finance asset management to sustainable practices in urban mobility, water management and energy.

To follow global technological advancement, the Smart City area emphasizes the use of technology to address various urban analytic challenges. It focuses on leveraging data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) devices, and smart infrastructure to optimize resource usage, reduce environmental impact, and enhance the well-being of citizens.
